OK, so the announcers said "this game doesn't matter" during the Browns vs. 49ers game. But if the Browns had lost and the Titans lost vs the Colts, the Browns would have not made the playoffs because the Browns would have been 9-7 and the Titans would have been 9-7, with the Titans owning the tiebreaker because of interconference play, right?

I'm sooo confused, the Browns needed the win AND they need the Titans to lose so that the Browns end up 10-6 and the Titans ending up at 9-7 is the way I see it.

The Browns conference record was 7-5 going into Sunday and The Browns played a Non-Conference game against SF. The Titans had a 6-5 Conference record going into Sunday's game against the Colts. Had the Titans and Browns both lost, Their records would have been 9-7. Cleveland(7-5 conf. record) would have gotten into the playoffs over Tennessee(6-6 conf. record)

The outcome of the CLE-SF game was irrelevant. The Titans needed to win to become 10-6 overall and 7-5 in the conference to bring it to the third tiebreaker, which is record against common opponents. The Titans got into the playoffs because they had a 4-1 record compared to the Browns 3-2 record against common opponents.

The Browns need the Titans to lose even though the two teams would have both 10-6 records it the Titans won because Tennessee owns the tiebreaker. Therefore, the Browns need to have an outright better record which would have never happened if they had lost. So had the Browns lost, the Titans would have clinched the spot even before their game started.

The Titans controlled the final playoff slot with a win and owning that tiebreaker. You are correct that a Titans loss, coupled with a Browns victory, would squeak Cleveland into the playoffs.

na, the 10-6 record is just to make the browns look like they had a good season. double digit wins for the 1st time in a while. all hinges on the titans game. titans lose, browns are in, titans win browns are out. simple as that.

It doesn't matter the Brown had their shot last week, they needed to be the Bengals but didn't, now they have to hope the Titans lose

they needed to win but it didn't matter if the Titans won because the Titans had the better record, which unfortunantly was the case.

GO BROWNS!
