I have a netgear rangemax wnr834bv2 wireless router wired to a dell desktop. I have the connection encrypted and all that set up. Wireless reception is good until i get to the bedroom. I read about getting a second wnr834b as a repeater so im considering doing that. Problem is....reading the instructions....it looks like i need to have the second router wired to another pc in order to be programmed as a repeater. i looked everywhere on the desktop for this particular set up screen but couldnt find it. The screen that allows me to set up the repeater. So my question is.....Does anyone have any knowledge and experience with this thing. How exactly do i set this thing up? Thanks

The second router only has to be wired to a computer in order to setup the connection. Once the connection is setup you can UNplug the computer. You do have to setup the WDS (wireless distribution system) on both your "prime" router and the "extenstion". Once you have them talking to each other you don't need to have a wired computer on either of them.

Routers stand alone and don't have "host" computers but all need a computer connected to them to set up the initial settings!.

Read the directions on setting WDS. You have to put the MAC address of the second router into the firsts routers WDS settings and put the MAC address of the first router into the second routers WDS settings. (or what netgear calls "repeater settings" - the main unit has to be set as the "base") The channels have to be set to the same channel. You can use the same SSID or a different one for identification but that is your choice. (OOPS sorry with NETGEAR they have to use the SAME SSID!)

Good Luck and HIT the NETGEAR forum for this type question you will get alot of information there.
