My family always left the tree up until after New Years' Day. They said it was bad luck to take it down before.

It's bad luck if it is a cut tree which has dried up and catches fire. The sooner it comes down the safer the house. With an artificial tree we will leave it up until the 3rd week in Jan.

That's all superstition! The only basis for taking your tree down earlier rather than later is if it's a "real" Christmas tree. In that case, even though you have the trunk in water, the tree is still tending to dry out and it becomes more of a fire hazard the longer it is there.

nah! I dont believe in bad or good luck!
things happen to us all in life but I'm sure glad it doesn't depend on if I'm superstitious or not!!

God is the only one who can dictate the future!

I keep mine up after the new yrs .....
coz i hate the way everything looks so depressing and dull after everyone takes their decorations down!
However my tree is NOT real so yeah if yours is real and is dry then for your safety take it down but for only that reason!!
anyways thats my opinion!

God bless you in 08'!
