I'm in a sophmore honors english course, and I was assigned to write a story. My teacehr didn't tell me waht to write about- she jsut said to write a story about anything.

I have a total writer's block because I can't think of anything good! I need an idea to get me started. I'm not going to say how many pages it needs to be. I jsut need a good idea that I can run with, you know? Like when you get an idea and you can build off of it and write for days without making teh story seem dull and repetative.

Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it (especially during the holidays!!)

Have a good new year!

write something that you have an interest in, a character that overcomes a big obstacle in their life, something that has drama and suspense. the reason i say for writing what you have an interest in is because you may know a lot about it. its really hard to write when a teacher says anything! thats when most people get their writers block! good luck!!!!

1) Something about a person with a disability. Make the reader really feel like what it's like to have that disability
2) Something about the last night on Earth. What if you knew life was ending at midnight? What would you do?
3) A story about a tragedy that ended in redemption is always nice.
4) A story to motivate people to do good for others (to understand someone else's plight and to be motivated to action) is really helpful, too.

Here are a couple of suggestions. Maybe one will work for you...

Premise: A misspelled word in a text message throws the plans for a New Year's Eve party into chaos.

Premise: The story of why your ancestors left their homeland to come to where you are today.

Premise: A child's nightmare provides insights that help an older sibling solve a moral dilemma.

Premise: A doctor's lab coat unravels as he frantically tries to snap off an errant piece of string.

Just some quick ideas. Hope they help!

A future time when the world is so loaded with people that it can not support another person, AND all of the habitable planets nearby have also reached the same condition so there is NO OTHER place for extra people to go. What happens then? Is no one allowed to have another child? Do they kill the oldest, or least popular, or the new guy, or a criminal? Or the leader? or "the weakest link? or have a lottery to see who gets to starve to death?

My aunt and I started this but never finished.. be warned- this is very random. [ Chrissy Lingolan was walking down her street about to go and look through her neighbors window, her parents were in prison & her foster mother was always drinking and was vacationing somewhere right now. So Chrissy could basically do whatever she wanted. She went up to one of her neighbors windows and this man turned and looked at her.. he looked in shock, picked up the phone and called the police. Chrissy ran backwards and found herself falling in a hole. She stumbled and was soon face to face with a......] You can continue this.

We made it really random and had her running into a store and stealing stuff, living in an old antique shop, being chased to a car dealership by a purple polka dotted care bear, stealing a car and going to arizona where she met up with her long lost rich uncle.

Yeah i know its random- I hope it helped..

Good luck

Just be creative, Write about a Yeti who is having a bad hair day, who is only trying to get help, but do to his appearance, everyone assumes he is a monster. He could eventually have him befriend a girl or another mythical creature such as Loch Ness. If you really wanted to make it modern, you can have him befriend a gay hair stylist that will take care of the Yeti's hair until the day they die old together.

Maybe a funny made up story about you and a friend.

Or like a story about like kids trapped on a island with a murder.

Put ideas in different cups like
-island
-boat
-number
things like that then draw from a place/number/people and see what comes out!
I could have draw a big city, with 4 old people. You know random things to help haha.

The best short stories are ones from your past, things that has happen to you or a friend a family member, a vacation or just a sleep over of some friends. Things from your past are ones you don't have to make up and they come from the heart. John Doe

gah. I hate it when they do that! Your lucky your honors class lets you write short stories. I'm a sophomore in an honors English as well and we get stuck with crap assignments. limited creativity and massive work loads. *grumbles*

anyways... I'd write about something somewhat humorous and don't be afraid to push limits. Haha. Liiiike, teddy bears or another cute plush toy that start attacking people, cannibals, or an apocalpse and peoples reactions. XDD danggit. now I want to write about that stuff!

How about writing a story about this exact topic. You can include all the responses you get to your question. The story would be about your search for the perfect story, and the method you took to gather the info for that story!

good luck!
