Unless there's proof or verifiable evidence, it's just fanciful and wishful thinking...first promulgated by our primitive barbarian ancestors...

Anna I too have had a hard time with this for many years. I am an older guy and when I was growing up the pressure to believe in some kind religion was a have too not a want too or a choice. As I got older I stop believing in anything. I did however felt that there is some kind of presents in energy so to speak at does gives and guides us to the thing most believe to be a soul. I also don't believe that religion has the answers that they say they have and the we have to look with in yourselves for the truth of anything other than what is around us.
I truly believe that the after life is a blending of the energy that comes from the life force with in all living things. I also think that if love is a focus in your life you take all positive love to the blending and any negative is left to its own to wonder with out the blending.
Bottom Line: We must live for the love of ones self and to share it with all in order to take it with us at the end. We must also live to believe in what ever we want and not let all these other miss guide us away form our own self image.

i was raised in a christian household and there is so much i would love to say about this question but i'ma only say a few things. how did earth form? No Human possible could have built the earth the stars they planets etc.. There is no scientific way to explain that. Nothing was just there. GOD is the only explaination for that. No human could put up a big rock in sky and say this is mars. Human can't even find a cure for some of these diseases we have around here let alone a planet. Your being stays in the ground until it turns to ashes...your soul will return to heaven or you will be cast unto hell. You wanna know if GOD is real? He is real because with everything we go through everyday human alone cannot go on by ourselves. Most people would have killed themselves! But through the grace of GOD we have the strength to keep going. He walks with us even when we turn our backs on him. If you have anymore questions please email me..I will be more than happy to answer.

What ever ones consciousness is at the time of death they are certain to receive a body according to that. One must understand Karma, Reincarnation and no one goes to hell eternally to understand the Unlimited mercy and love of God.
We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies. This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. We fell here due to envying Gods position. He made the material world for those who want to try to live separately from Him (Which is impossible because He is actually everywhere). After many lifetimes of trying to be happy in this temporary world, one becomes frustrated and board and begins to question their existence. We then seek out real happiness, and when one becomes sincere God reveals how to come back Home. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga), which begins with the chanting of the Maha Mantra, (the great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion), which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life, they can give up all material attachments and fully surrender to God and return to the eternal Kingdom, where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. For info. Go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita- As it is by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada asitis.com can be read on line. I am so glad I know how to prepare for my next existance.

Good question. Consider near death experiences (NDEs). Science will tell you this is impossible, but some thousands who have died and been recessitated describe meeting dead realtives, some they didn't even know they had. Science has a theory that this phenomenon is a dying brain going haywire, but that theory doesn't explain meeting relatives one never knew existed and then getting confirmation that they had existed from family. Near death experiences show enough evidence that indeed there is some kind of existence after the body dies. It may not seem logical that one can think without a brain, but life after death is real. Hope this helps.

i think that when the physical body dies, if the soul has learned enough at the earth school, it goes on into the cosmos fully aware of all physical and energetic forces. if the soul has lesson to learn yet, it selects another life and a new body
religion and science both have an important piece of the puzzle, as it were, but neither have cooperated enough to see the big picture

Sorry to break it to you Anna but no one here has died and will only know the answer to your question once they have died. Maybe you should worry about this life while you are living it and then worry about the afterlife when and if you get there. That way you won't waste time on thinking about something we can never know.

When one dies, the soul sleeps (that is what one thinks is one, one's personality) the body rots and the spirit goes back to G-D. If one is suddenly awaken, then one has made it into the eternal life. If, on the contrary, one is never awaken, it doesn't matter, one won't be aware of this.
If you are in doubt Jesus promises eternal life if you confess His name and believe in your heart that He is the Son of G-D, then you get hope for the after death experience.

You are free to believe both. I don't know is a good response when you don't know. There is not a thought for nothing, there are only thoughts for a sensible something or absence of sensible something, so how could I conceive a future of nothing when there is not thought for it.
