It's basically a waste of time and sometimes illegal. More often than not, they are considered spam and nothing ever comes from them.

I like chain e-mails. I don't forward them usually but I enjoy receiving them. I may forward a few if I know the receiver(s) will enjoy them as well, usually after specifically asking for each one.

If you're referring to the Urban legend ones, well, Snops and other sources try to cover them. if a chain e-mail claims something as fact and you are not sure it is true, I would research it out. Most all of them started somewhere mostly true and over time have morphed into fiction.

As for the "you'll get bad/good luck if you ___" ones... I've always felt your fate and outlook on life is yours. If you believe you'll get the bad luck then you will, similarly with the good. I seriously doubt the email by itself can cause implications bigger than itself in your life unless you let it.

Yeah they're real! I know a guy who's cousin's roomate's dog's old owner didn't forward a MySpace Bulletin. He thought it was a joke and then he got bad luck for seven years!!*&#@#@!!!!!!
