With all this presidential candidate chaos going on, do you think the qualification of someone having to be an American born citizen can only be president, really matters at all? Should It be changed to just American Citizen, born or naturalized?

"Nope, I believe only those born as US citizens should be allowed to be president. How sure could we be that anyone else would ultimately have the US's best interest at heart."

Heh, how can you be sure that a US born citizen will have the US's best interest at heart?

My vote would be for the 'honest hard working immigrant candidate' over the 'spoiled rotten Xth son of privileged never got their hands dirty with manual labor in the last several generations rich candidate' any day. The immigrant would be a President with the values of the regular person and that is what the country needs. Not another of the American Royalty of Wealth.

Citizenship should be earned not given for being lucky enough to be born on US soil. I doubt the current President could pass the citizenship test while any immigrant has to before they get to be a citizen. I wonder how many born on US soil in the last 20 years can? Can you? Go ahead and try it...

Heh, commie spies, manchurian candidates, what's next, aliens? And I mean the ones from Alpha Centarui not the illegals. lol

As for the fall of Rome, that was all about nepotism and turning the back on the value of earning citizenship. Sound familiar? Yes, I do see the similarities and fear for the USA going the way of Rome.

First of all, I do not know what you mean about "presidential candidate chaos going on". I do not see any chaos. Being a natural born citizen is important. It helps guard against a "Manchurian Candidate". The Constitution is fine the way it is. There would be nothing to be gained by amending how elections are conducted or presidential qualification requirements.

Happy New Year!

The constitution of the United States of America is constantly under attack by those that want to rewrite it. The President of the United States needs to be born in this country in order to qualify. It really does matter. Personally I would even go a step further and say that your parents would have also had to have been born in the United States (a minimum of 1 generation American Citizen). How would it be a former KGB family comes over, raises their son to be a politician and run for president so they can gain communist control over the nation??

I see there are various people who're misinformed. right here is the way it works: A organic Born US Citizen, is a citizen who did no longer might desire to be naturalized - as a results of fact they have been a citizen at delivery. that's all it skill. It does not propose which you have been born right here. while you're born interior the rustic, you're a organic Born US Citizen, inspite of parentage. If the two father and mother have been US electorate, the youngster may be a organic Born US Citizen inspite of birthplace. If born in a foreign places united states of america, and one determine is an American citizen who has resided for 5 years interior the united states, 2 of which after she became 14, and the different is a foreign places national, the youngster is a organic Born US Citizen. Japan would understand the youngster as a jap citizen as a results of fact one determine is jap, under jus sanguinis, so the youngster would be eligible for twin nationality.

We are having a hard enought time NOW, getting good Presidential material.
Seems like bringing in sort of outsiders could only mage the gumball stickier.

I like the idea in concept but from the looks of things out there now ...unless some really important things change quickly, the USA won't have to worry about the question you pose.
We'll be history. Toast. The late, Great ...Rome.

No, the reason for having to be born in America is so that the value of American-Born Citizenship will never be tarnished. It is the highest political honor in the United States.

No, I think one should be born in the US to be allowed to run for president. We are giving some the priviledge of living in America but they shouldn't be allowed to come from another country and take over the office of running our country.

No, our founding fathers thought it was a necessary requirement, and I see no logical reason to change that.
