in pro motocross/supercross, against the likes of Carmichael, Stewart, Villopoto, etc.

A woman would have to have comparable upper body strength, takes a lot in this sport.

They would probably do ok in Trials, since it basically requires a lot of skill, not as much strength and endurance as MX

I have already answered this question in the Moto racing section but think that many of the ladies who state that of course women are competitive obviously haven't been to many Motocross or Supercross race meets and are just taking the question as a 'women can do anything men can' question.
I believe women to be as good as men but in some things like motocross and supercross so far there hasn't been any women who have starred and could honestly beat Carmichael or Stewart. I know a number of top motocross female riders and they would admit that they are not up to beating the best male but would love to give it a go.
I admire any woman who can compete in the tough sport and while I hold a motorbike license and I act as official at motocross meets I would not like to be out there bashing bars with the boys. Will stay safely in the tower collating points or bossing the boys around on the start line.

Competitive?
Hell yeah.
Would we win...
That's a whole different story.
I mean don't get me wrong, I'm all for it, but she'd have to be in pretty damn good shape, as you said.
I've been racing for almost 10 years so I know when you talk about endurance. I've skipped just a few work outs before and by the end of the race it felt like my arms were going to fall off. It takes a lot of discipline to race.
There's probably about 4 other girls that I race with and they're pretty damn good. Usually we're all top 10, a lot of the times there's a couple of us top 5 also. Also though look at it this way, would the pros race a woman differently? Not go as hard on her, make clean passes, ect.? When I moved up a class I noticed the guys were racing me differently-- ha until I started winning that is. Hah I love racing with guys; they get so pissed when they get beat by a girl, it's funny:]
But let me shut up before I make this even longer.
Hah to answer your question, yes I think a girl could hold her own out there against pros.
It's coming, only a matter of time.

In cars yes (see Danica Patrick), and in super bike road racing yes, in small size moto bike classes yes, but in larger motocross classes I think no, because like many other physical sports you need a lot of upper body strength.

It has been proven scientifically that women have better reflexes and that they are less prone to over-excitement and emotional distress so... Yes, I think they'd be more than a match for men in any of the motorsports.
