would the dark pink parts be square-looking, and the light ones be triangles? i cant tell!!

i'd love to do this for the bottom of my winter formal dress.

ALSO: what would be a good design for the top if i was to use the bottom of this?

Explanations are a bit hard to explain over the internet..If anyone could do a quick sketch of what they mean in paint it would be greatly appreciated!

I think the dark pink fabric was cut straight up at intervals leaving rectangles in between, then the light pink fabric was folded and sewn over the pink, hiding the cut edge of the dark and folding under the edge of the light pink. The light pink was folded into a sort of a triangle. This folding and sewing is the reason that the dark pink is rolled back on itself and the light pink has uniform bands down the sides of the opening.
I think you would need to cut some scrap cloth to represent the front and other to be the light pink and then iron and fold and install with straight pins, trimming the light pink until you had a shape that worked and then use that as a pattern.

There is a seam above each of the light colored triangle pieces. You really should use a purchased pattern for this type of style - too tricky unless you're pretty experienced. I've seen these in pattern books - try McCall's (or Simplicity or Vogue) online. Good luck!

Update: I just went to the McCall's pattern website and found this pattern: http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M5180.htm?tab=dresses&page=3.

the dark pink part was cut into a triangle point. the light pink was just a pieceof fabric under the dress. you should make the top part top part tie around your neck but find a nice blazer or sweater to go with it in case you get cold
