Yes it is very dangerous. Turn off the breaker for this circuit .
Call an Electrician. The fan is most likely shorted and could set your house on fire .

All electric motors burn up sooner or later, turn it off and call an electrician, but if the smoke was coming from the fan motor it is already to late for your fan.

The motor is worn out. Don't turn it on anymore. Get rid of it and buy a new one.

shut the POWER OFF NOW do not try to use it. it has shorted out somehow, it needs to be replaced. sorry, best wishes and good luck.

shut it off and keep it off. replace it ...something got hot inside of it.. it could catch fire.
