Having such a beautiful open attitude as yours and being a mother, there is a world wide LGBT organization really needs many LGBT friendly open minded parents, who can support especially in the USA parents to understand when there son or daughter comes out it's OK. Many young LGBT persons suffer with accepting their sexuality due to a fundamentally minded attitude from there parents who have no understanding leaving a young LGBT very limited options, most choose suicide as one of these options or there is a complete breakdown within a loving relationship between family. Have a chat with this organization, they have many open minded straight like minded married mothers just like you who are involved. Remember one more loud voice adds to billions who want to see the end of discrimination towards all people and silents equals death. Happy New Year and a big ((Hug)) to you sister.

Of course you can! It never hurts to get involved in a community outside of your own. :) Way to go MOM! Do some searching on the internet for your town, there has got to be some organizations in your area that support LGBT. Thank you, the world needs more like you!

especially as a mom, you will be an invaluable friend to any kids in your childrens social circles who are gay and whose parents are not ok with it, or who fear their reactions. i think in this regard, reaching out to a kid who's different and scared, you have the potential to be of great help.
a good place to find answers to some of your questions is on PFLAG's website; there's a section for people who want to be supportive in just the way you are saying:

i think it's wonderful that you have an attitude like you do-- this is one of the scariest times in the life of any kid, as they individuate and figure out who they are. when kids this age start to realize that they're gay they start to think about all the bad things they have heard about gay people all their lives and wonder if it applies to them. it really, really helps to have an adult who is accepting and grounded and who lets you know that you're going to be okay.
good luck, and thank you :)

Find your nearest Unitarian Universalist Church. They support GLBT and are very involved in support actions and groups. They could steer you in the right direction

just say exactly what you said in your question (the bit about born equal and rights) whenever the opportunity arises, and do not burn a bible. that will just make the church angrier at everyone.

Contribute to organizations fighting for equal rights for those not allowed them now AND also can always "fight" with your vote.
