Well, cutting your wrists helps. It makes the pain that you feel in your heart it makes it pain that your feel in your wrists. Pain you feel in your wrists is actually much easier to deal with then pain you feel in your heart etc..

Listen to Val, I think she has it right

People cut themselves to express themselves and that's why some do it. They take out there anger/aggression/sorrow whatever feelings of emotion they feel the need to express through external pain. They want to know where the pain is coming from as some people don't understand why they feel the way they do and give themselves a reason to really "feel". It's just a form of expression and can be dangerous. It is not always associated with suicide I don't think that's true at all. You can't put yourself in everyones shoes and tell me that they all want to kill themselves, because I for one know that isn't the case.

Anyways, hope that helps

cutting is a way of externalizing pain. Some people externalize by yelling, fighting, hitting others. For other people it's easier to cut, it way of feeling physical pain in order to try and block out emotional pain.

It could be out of depression, or because of something that had happened to them in the past that they don't tell people because they are ashamed, embarrassed, or just hurt by it. Try to talk that people you know into not slitting their wrists, and try to change their point of view on life.

AS A WAY TO DIRECT EMOTIONAL PAIN INTO PHYSICAL PAIN . IT SEEMS TO BE EASIER FOR THEM TO HANDLE. VERY SAD.
