not to wash by hand or machine. It is a cloth cover, non-metallic. What harm can it do?

Well it could prove pretty dangerous - washing in your machine may cause the machine to clog, break down or explode. Washing by hand may give you an allergic reaction, cause skin to split and weep and make it very sore..... I'd think about it very seriously if I were you - the labels are there for a reason!

It is probably going to shrink up so much you will never get it back on.

Buy a new one, they cost about $5.00, good god, don't be so cheap.
