I didn't "forget" Ron Paul... it's obvious he won't be the next to drop out...

And if everyone else leaves him out of their polls... who am I to do any different... after all... it isn't the polls that win elections... is it...

Okay with you leaving Ron Paul off the list. He's too stubborn to drop out of a burning airplane. Hopefully, though, by Super Tuesday he'll see the light.

But you should still have put Duncan Hunter on the list. It shouldn't take much more than the results from Iowa, and maybe New Hampshire, for him to withdraw. Fred Thompson may stay in until South Carolina, but if he doesn't place higher than third in any contest up to that point he'll be next to go.

Giuliani

He has bet too much on the later, bigger states, and that's going to hurt him. His very low numbers are going to KILL him nationally with as many as 3 Republican candidates having momentum after the first few primaries, Huckabee, McCain, and maybe Romney depending on where he finishes here in Iowa and New Hampshire. I don't think McCain will have any mo coming out of Iowa, but New Hampshire might give him some, and it looks like Huckabee could be the winner come Thursday night here in Iowa. If Romney finishes second in IA and NH, I don't know if that gives him momentum past that. Guilani, on the other hand, is looking to have horrid results in those first few states, with his hopes being pinned on Florida. Problem is, he has to GET to Florida in good shape to win it.

I don't think Thompson will last much longer, though either. Maybe through Michigan, maybe.

Edit

To those who put Ron Paul, I think you are half right.
He has a ton of cash, cash that by law can only be used in a presidential campaign or refunded to the donors. Well, since he won't give money back to the founder of Stormfront, a white supremacist organization, even when everyone knows where he got it from, he's pretty much shown that he's not going to give the money back.

This is where I think the Libertarian Party comes in. He ran for them in 1988, and he already has the 2004 presidential candidate's endorsement. I suspect that he will take his war chest AWAY from the Republican party and run either as an independent, or as a Libertarian. If he runs as a Libertarian again, he CAN take his money with him as the funds are not specified as him running as a Republican, only for President. While he may have a tough time getting on the ballot in all 50 states as an independent, the Libertarian Party IS on the ballot in all 50 states. By default, if the Libertarian party puts him up as their candidate, they have done all of the heavy lifting for him.

You forgot Ron Paul. I don't think any of them will drop out until or unless a clear front runner is obvious. The way it looks now, the decision may not actually be made until the Convention. As long as they have funding to continue they probably will.

-Happy New Year!

Thompson, primarily because I don't think his candidacy ever really started. I am surprised he has lasted this long, to be honest.

Romney Huckabee and Giuliani are front runners - they have no reason to drop out at this point. John McCain probably does, but he is a lot more driven than Thompson is. I think he is going to ride it out until defeat is almost certain.

And thanks for excluding Ron Paul from this poll. Nice to see someone else recognizes that his candidacy is so inconsequential that it doesn't even deserve mention. =D

Well, since you've already got Ron Paul out of it, I will take a stab at a guess with C. Fred Thompson.
