my cd rom is down, so i need to download the software from epson. can someone tell me what exactly i need? ive got a epson rx 595, and im using with windows xp

Try downloading and installing the driver from:
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0823401090.1199069820@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccdkaddmlhkjlfecgemcfjgdfljdfon.0&cookies=no&infoType=Overview&oid=90754
or go to http://epson.com directly, choose "Drivers & Support" and search for RX595
It's likely that you're using the 32-bit version of Windows XP, so you would probably need Printer Driver v6.5bA and TWAIN Driver and EPSON Scan Utility v3.20A (for scanning functions). Good luck!

As per your message,
BOTH drivers
Printer for the printing
Twain for the scanning.
Also I'd suggest investing in a new DVD ROM so you can read the manuals on the disc it came with . . .
