It depends on how much your community cares about national fashion cliches. Black is the clothing choice of big-city women who can't think for themselves or bear to stand out or even change clothes every day. Every year, a different color is pronounced the "new black". Gray is the new black. Brown is the new black. Middle-aged people having babies? 40 is the new 30, 50 is the new 40, etc.
I'm thinking this Tshirt of yours won't be OK in most places, because there are so many meanings of the word Black - "hate" and "African-American" are too closely linked in the minds of white bigots and bureaucratic chickenheads, and most communities don't even know about black clothes as a fashion choice. Where I live we wear camouflage for hunting ducks, and bright colors for skiing!

I agree with you and don't really see how it is offensive, but others might have different outlooks. Its not like you're saying you support hate, the shirt simply states as you said, hate is so common, its a popular word and feeling, that its as popular as the new black. Its an interesting spin on a viewpoint and I don't see how it is offensive. However it is a little too brash. It might not be something everyone wants to see on your shirt, if you know what I mean.

Well it is a shame that anything that says the word "black" is construde as a racial term. Like someone thought and told me that black friday was a racist term that souldn't be used, they totally missed the point of why it was called black friday. second wear the shirt all yo want when you turn 18. I wonder though if they would still feel the same if it said "Love is the new black"?

I know what it means, but I think some people will interpret it to have something to do with black people and be offended. The idea that hate is the new "goes with everything fashion" is just sad. It's mean and it will be misinterpreted. Your Mom is right. You may be asked to change it at school anyway.

I find anything racial is offensive, and I wouldn't give two cents for a shirt like that, let alone wear it. I think your spelling is rather offensive, and if it's the touchstone of your education, you're wasting your time going to "skewl".

Kinda like 40 is the new 20. I can see why it would be unacceptable to wear at school, you might hit some cultural sensitivities because it could convey the wrong message.

well, if you wear it you'll probably end up having to take it off half way through the day or sooner and the adminstrators will give you some lost and found t-shirt to wear.
