Where can I find a build-it-yourself kit for a live-in affordable small cotttage?

Define what you mean by a small cottage and by affordable and what your skills are. You have to have a toilet, a sink, and a shower, at least, and a place to cook and keep food. Look around you and measure some rooms and see where you are willing to cut back and combine. The more walls you can eliminate, the bigger it will seem and the more space you will have for every activity.
Search for mini-homes and living in small spaces
I just read a neat book from the library on living in small spaces showing choices that need to be made.

look at plans.com
or lowes sells a book , on plans
or take a picture to your local lumber yard of what u lik they will price it for you , then you can build it
make a list of what you need, floor plans
toilet , bedroom, 1,2 front room kitchen etc , one story or two
the frame should take about 9days
the rest could be wood lap sideing ,on the outside or stone
