It is a birth control shot that lasts for I believe is 6 months. I would not recommend it. It causes weight gain in a lot of people and when I had it, I bled almost at least every other day there was something. If you are looking for birth control, check out the Mirena IUD. It has low hormones. They put it in, check it a month later, and then you are good to go for 5 years unless you want it out sooner to have a baby. You still have to go for a PAP every year as usual. I know a few people that used the depo shot and blew up. They got real big and they were small girls. Hope I helped you out.

It is an injection you get every three months that I'm appalled is still being administered to women.
You may not ever get a period, you may get a normal period, you may spot at odd times, you may bleed for MONTHS on end on this shot.
There are far far many negative effects than positives. I'd never ever recommend it to anyone.
I was on it for some time, and I'm so glad I'm off of it.
Please read the reviews here:
http://www.rateitall.com/t-330-birth-control-methods.aspx
and google "depo provera lawsuit" (there are several class action lawsuits against the makers of this shot).
