You'll think that they would learn to be straight with the public and that we are a lot smarter then they think we are. What say you?

Media outlets are only as liberal as the conservative corporations that own them.

Now, now.

I've been in a lot of newsrooms over the years, and there are more liberals than conversatives (although not as much of a gap as you probably think). That's probably because the news business has a vested interest in change -- the status quo doesn't make much news -- so reporters lean toward events happening.

However, management of media outlets usually is on the conservative side, as no one wants to offend advertisers. So there's something of a balance there overall.

Does some bias pop up here and there in news stories? Of course. Do people worry about it too much? Absolutely. Most news stories are pretty straight-forward, if you look at them. Not much chance to slant material.

Both corky and wdx2bb are right.

The media are not as overwhelmingly liberal as you think. I don't think you've really, really looked into it.

I work in the media, and I certainly don't think the public is stupid. I also know that "the media" is not a single entity-- they (media is plural) are composed of many, many disparate parts. There are many liberal journalists, editors, anchorpeople and other folks, but there are also many conservative media folks.

Murdoch has amassed an astoundingly large conservative media empire. The Wall Street Journal has a conservative editorial perspective. So does Fox.

As far as hard news goes (the straight account of the day's events) there isn't much room for bias. Punditry is not journalism. CNN does not represent the entirety of the media.

Let's see: Fox News is the most watched and most mainstream cable news outlet in America, and is so right-wing, Hitler would blush watching it.

The Wall Street Journal is one of the most read newspapers in the country, and it was just bought by that conservative hack, Rupert Murdoch.

The vast majority of political radio programs are run by conservatives: Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage.

Liberal media? I think you've blindly bought into the bullsh*t that your conservative heroes have been feeding you without once stopping to think for yourself.

I actually once felt like you do, until I stopped ranting against the "evil" liberals and started doing some unbiased research. The truth was stunning, and is too scary for most, but I'm glad I found out what to think without letting someone else tell me what to think.

A former Journalism major, my experience was liberal professors; which produce liberal writers, editors and producers.

Liberals think that they are smarter than everyone else, when actually the reverse is true. They think everyone else is dumb even though they may say we just need to be enlightened.

Knowledge is power so they really don't want the dumb public to have any; they'd loose their edge.
