people you don't even know call you "hunnie" or "hun" or "sweetie"? It drives me INSANE. I HATE it. I go to dunkin donuts every morning, and every now and then the lady will hand me my coffee and say "Here you go hun" I have no idea why, but I just cannot stand it. Anyone else? Or have I absolutely lost it? :)

My older sister said she hates it too. Especially because it's always people about 7 years younger than her saying it. She says they have "no respect" Haha, it just bugs the crap out of me.

Oh see, I don't mind a boyfriend calling me babe or something, or even a close friend, but I just think it's weird when strangers call me "sweetie" Idk, it's weird, ha.

I hate it, when someone much younger than I am uses that language to me.

I used to hate it. Now I pay it no mind. I have noticed the people who use those terms do so with anyone. It has no special meaning. Once a female clerk called me sweetie. I thought she was coming on to me. Then at a different time. I noticed she does so with other customers. I had thought she was gay. It turns out she is married and has kids.

I know a lot of people hate that but it doesn't bother me at all. There are a lot worse things going on in life that bother me but being called hunny or sweetie is the least of my worries.

Well, no you haven't absolutely lost it. I used to feel the same way. It can be kind of annoying I guess...because usually you don't call people pet names like that unless you know them really well..so when a complete stranger calls you "hun" or whatever, it's just weird...
But I've personally gotten used to it...it doesn't bother me anymore.
BUT what really drives me crazy is customers that call me by my name (just because they can see it on my name tag)!! They try to act as if they know you or something...I hate it!

Yes i would agree sorry for calling u honey in that answer about food, but yes, i hate it t its like whaatt. I can see calling somone 7 years or younger, but shessh not someone whos an adult and has things going for em. But also i put it this way. To older people like 40,50 + year old and up i guess they can call us that because we are young to them lol. They brought us into the world and have those parental settings you know what i mean lol.

I think you have an odd sensibility. What could possibly be wrong with calling someone Honey, Hun or Sweetie? You seem to have lost it. Look at it this way. You are a sweet looking person so the pet names are descriptive.

Happy New Year!

When I was younger (I'm now 43) yes it used to bother me. I have actually grown to enjoy is as I get older. I'm a glass is 1/2 empty person and have tried to become more "happy" so I find this a nice gesture from people. It certainly beats those who treat you like crap.

I work at a dispatch center for a security company, and there is a guard that calls in every so often, and always calls my "sweetheart" and "darling", and I know he isn't trying to be creepy or sexually harass me, but that is sometimes the way I feel.
I don't let my boyfriends call me but stupid pet names, let alone virtual strangers.
I hate when people call their significant others "babe", like they're children, it kind of creeps me out...
Maybe I am a freak too, but that's the way I feel.

I know what you mean. I don't know if it's just me but I don't like people use familiar terms when I don't know them that well. I especially don't like it when guys do it. I think only players go around calling girls "sweetie," "hunny," "baby."

I agree. I think it's very condescending. It bugs me more, though, if a man does it than a woman. There was this toll collector named Ernie that always did that, and I avoided his lane every morning! The guy who ran the grill at the gym tried it with me (young guy in his mid-20's, and I am 38!), and I complained to the manager. Blech!

No hun, I dont hate it. Sweetie, in the south, we are just more friendly like that. Dont take it so personal babe. Its better than saying "Hey You", isnt it love?
