In general, if you rent an apartment are you allowed to drill holes in the walls, etc in order to hang a plasma tv on the wall? What are the general rules to follow with this kind of thing? THanks

The best thing to do would be to check with your landlord on whether or not you are able to do that. Every Apartment Complex has different rules on that sort of thing. Just remember that you will be held liable for the damage caused to the wall when you hang your plasma tv.

My leases specify no large holes. Anything that is heavy or needs large holes is expressly forbidden because it ruins the walls. If you put the hole in the wall and putty it up and it shows, you will pay for the removal of the putty and professional reputting and painting of the wall. So you need to check with the landlord. If they don't want you to put the hole in the wall, ask them if they will put the hanger in the wall for you. They may know where the studs are and it would be easy to put a reasonable hole through the dry wall and into the stud and so may do it for you. Best advice is buy a stand for it.

As long as you repair the holes and repaint the wall the landlord should not mind you hanging a TV on the wall....that is, make sure you hang it correctly so it doesn't turn into a big hole in the wall :)

In general, landlords do not want tenants drilling holes or using anchors in the wall or mounting large, heavy objects to the wall.

You could be held liable for any damage caused by your installation.

You should ask and, if allowed, get permission in writing.

In my particular apartment complex, if you make any hole(s) in the wall, you have to fill them in when you move. It's easier just to get a stand for it.

Well , I would ask my landlord how they felt about it. Or just fix the holes and return the home the way you found it. You don't want to loose your deposit.
