Y or Y not?

I just think that if one is mentally mature enough to drive a car, that person is probably capable of making a good voting decision, don't you think?

No.

Even though they can drive, the majority of teens are highly uneducated about what happens in our political system.

Right. The only thing is that most 16 year olds are not mentally mature enough to drive a car. They get the keys, and immediately start acting irresponsibly. That's why insurance rates for teens are sky high.

So, no. The voting age should not be lowered. The driving age should be raised.

Considering that 16-18 year olds have way more car accidents than those over 18, the logic of old enough to drive old enough to vote doesn't hold water. Better to raise the minimum driving age to 18 than lower the voting age.

You make a good point, but I think 18 is a good age. It's when most graduate from high school and can serve their country in the military.

Although I think the voting age should stay at 18, I would argue that the drinking age needs to be lowered to 18 as well. If young people can do the aforementioned things, they should have the right to drink.

no way! At 16 you are not mentally mature. There is an exception to some 16 year olds, but the majority is still pretty immature. I think 18 is fine.

No,
I don't think that, that is true. You are still in High School and are not legally an adult. Most kids, and alot of adults are not able to think for themselves and are very easily persuaded to vote for a candidate that they would or do not know anything about.
I see this happen in older adults that have Alzheimer's or a type of illness that prevents them from decision making. And their adult children take them into a polling place and use them a "dummy" to just register another vote. Sad really.

Just my opinion. Good question though

no.

i don't even think most 16 year olds are mature enough to drive a car, let alone vote to make decision that effect everyone.

how many 16 year olds know about certain things in the government that affect them?

do they know the importance of taxes? do they even care?

do they understand the various laws that are in place these days? (for physical crime, embezzlement, extortion, etc)

most 16 years olds don't even have a job, they don't even realize what it means to work for minimum wage.

That way of thinking is EXACTLY why 16 is NOT old enough to vote.

Driving is a learned act; a skill. A monkey can learn to drive a car as can a 10 yr old.
* Not something that takes "mental maturity" as you put it.

No. Even 18 is a very young age to understand all of the issues and make an intelligent vote. Youth is wasted on the young.

No, alot of the people that are legally considered "mentally mature" enough to drive aren't. Why do you think there are so many teen accidents? And I don't think that alot of 16 year olds would really take voting that seriously

you recognize, easily, i'm leaning in direction of no. i know many sixteen twelve months previous that know greater approximately our government and present day affairs than maximum adults. What i could truly choose to verify, is a greater knowledgeable balloting inhabitants. How could you are trying this? could or no longer that's which you had to take a 5 question quiz approximately present day affairs in the previous balloting? that must be the only way, yet you may pay attention such an uproar that it could be complicated to enforce. in case you employed the quiz, i could be pleased with a sixteen y/o balloting.
