So that all the God botherers think that they have got something to live for.

It's a good question and no one knows for sure. I forget now all the research I did on it about 10 years ago, but its something like this.
The thyroid glad is responsible for the growth hormone which helps the body repair itself. This keeps us young looking etc.
The immune system is an incredible weapon the body uses to fight illness, and if studied in detail it is hard to see why we do die, saving of course accident or murder.
However it seems the mysterious pineal gland, linked with psychic phenomena, and having no fully known use, suddenly at one point in a persons life (and this will vary from person to person) secretes a hormone into the thyroid which causes the thyroid to gradually slow down and stop. This moment then is the beginning of the end. In some ways it is like the body has been pre-programmed to die.

Yes unless the person is in sooo much pain than it's a release!! Been there done that!! People will go to a better place! If people didn't die this world would be unlivable!! We would run out of room and food the world as we know it would be a hell on earth! I'm glad we have a circle of life. ♥

Due to imperfection our body cells can only reproduce a finite number of times. No matter how fit we are, once each cell has reproduced that number of times, it dies. In a similar way, the heart will only beat a certain number of times (within a range), which is why smaller animals with faster heartbeats usually die quicker than larger mammals with a slower heartbeat. Over the whole of the body, we are gradually dying from the day we are born.

unfortunately we are all part of something called the life cycle. Life cannot go on forever, thats just the way it is. If everyone didn't have to die, just imagine the earth's problems then.... Overcrowding, not enough homes, not enough food, depletion of the earth's natural resources. Death is a horrible thing but if it didn't exist, life couldn't go on as we know it

If we were never going to die, then we wouldn't feel the strive for different things in our lives. For example, what fun would doing "live for the moment" things be if you knew you could do them for eternity? The world would get boring to us; society would never evolve in the way it has. And if we're going to get literal, can you imagine getting so old if we never died? That would be awful - we wouldn't even be able to do anything with our long pointless lives!

I think the fact that we all have to die at some point makes life more precious and we appreciate it more. If we have had an infinte amount of life it just wouldn't be as wonderful.

so you live your life to it's fullest.
I mean wouldn't everyone just take advantage of life if they didn't have to die at some point?
you know you have a limit of years on earth so you appreciate everything you have.

I am actually (not suicidally mind you) looking forward to dying. I enjoy life but it can kill you, so I think the end will be nice, to be done. I want a good one where I don't have to regret a thing.

hmm..............I never thought of that. Maybe because people get tired of being on this Earth and they need the rest of there existance in a peaceful, reastful enviorment (heaven). Or if they made the LEAST of there time on this Earth, the get punished and tortured. (Hell)
