I have a Honeywell F300A Electronic Air Cleaner attached to the forced air intake at my home. When the unit is in operation I hear a popping sound which I always took to mean that it was simply the sound of the incoming forced air being cleaned.

Lately however the popping sounds started to get more frequent. So I cleaned the cells on the air cleaner in my dishwasher and vacuumed the pre-filters clean. But this does not really seem to have helped any, i.e. I am still hearing the constant popping while the air cleaner is in operation.

Is this normal? Or is this something I should be taking care of? If its the latter then what could the problem be?

Mine works fine and makes the same noises. Check your air in take vents mine are in the floor and one is in the wall. Maybe if you clean them less debree will past thru the furnace.

If it's an electrostatic air cleaner, it collects
dust, which shortens the distance between the
charged elements and promotes sparking. ('Pops`).
Follow instructions for cleaning the air cleaning unit.
**DO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY**
there are high voltages involved, which must be
drained before you get in there.

Yes and when you vaccume it will get worse. After a few months it will mellow out. The more you move around the more dust you kick up. Also clean according to instructions.

Because it is easier to pump out pop songs with a laptop than it is to do so with traditional instruments. @ MrNoFace: Why does listening to some pop music make one a conformist, and further, are you implying that being a conformist is inherently bad?
