Take your game pieces off the board. Is what I would do simply don't fall into their traps. Or you could turn the other cheek? I think the more Christian way of dealing with it is Righteous anger. Get mad and tell them what they are doing that ticks you off. Jesus did the same thing in the temple with the money changers... Be angry and sin not...... Just a thought.

I've reached an age where I no longer feel the need to hold onto relationships that are hurtful - someone who consistently plays mind games would be cut out of my life.

Unless you are Amish, you do not have to turn the other cheek and just take abuse. Indeed you should take a moral stand and simply say that you will not tolerate deceitfulness in any form. If the person is unapologetic then it is within your right to distance yourself from this person. On the other hand, if they are sorry, it may be worth giving them a second chance to do better.

We are told to avoid foolish and unproductive, vain arguments. It may not be a bad idea to avoid foolish, vain, and unproductive people, especially those who are insincere, hurtful, and harmful.
I'll bet you are talking about an extremely unhappy person.
The world is full of people who try to make themselves feel better by making other people unhappy, or to make themselves look good by making other people look bad.
They prefer to poison the rest of the world with their own unhappiness, instead of doing something about it.

To kindly and clearly tell this person what they are doing that hurts others. Bring a friend or 2 to help you with this. Then explain that you will still be friends if they stop doing hurtful things. Love them, pray for them, and find something else to do with your time.
Do not offer your mind as a plaything.

I am a Christian but really hate that term "The Christian Way". Decency should be a tenet of any religion or way of living and the rules apply to your mindgamer as well. Just stop dealing with them if they continue their behavior.

First of all, tell God you forgive them. Then, ask God to do whatever He knows it will take for them to quit playing those hurtful games. Ask God to convict them for hurting people. He will.
And just totally ignor any comments that hurtful person makes. They now, since you've prayed, have God to deal with. And, they don't even realize it.

I've never seen any where in the Bible where it says that you have to make a jerk your bestest buddy. Just steer clear of the putz and hang out with friends who are actually friends.

Love them, pray for them but let them know that you will not tolerate being mistreated by them. Christian or not, God does not want us to subject ourselves to abusive behavior. Being strong and kind are tough but necessary in some relationships.
