im on my genrals right now, still thinking of what to major. I pretty much have my mind set, though im still thinking and whenever I share my thoughts and plans with someone, speically with family, I get bad feedback. Like today my brother kinda put me down about my first choice because he says I wont be making so much money in that field, and thats kinda of a lost case and hard to get anywhere with it.
and yesterday my dad's friend said I need to pick something that will have me making alot of money..so I go, but I wish to do something that I enjoy, and maybe make a little less but still love to wake up and go to work, rather than hate it and have it as a daily struggle. what should I do??

So I thought I'd go with a major in what I want (towards nutrition field) and then minor in say..Bussiness, cause that should be good money I guess...would I have to work on both at the same time? does the minor include same stuides as for a person that is majoring in that?

thanks

While no job is fun all the time, you have to have at least some interest in a field to be able to stand spending years working on something. Realize that many people think college is all about getting rich. If you have other values, you are correct. As long as you can support yourself on the income from your field, you should study something which interests you.

I know that when I went to law school a few years ago, I had no intention of changing careers, I just wanted to learn about the law. Many people would talk about how great it was, that when I finished I could get a job which would earn me a lot of money. After arguing for a while, I realized they were never going to get it, and I just smiled sweetly when they talked about that and let it go.

In your case, you probably can't help telling a few people what you want to do, but perhaps talking about it a lot isn't the greatest idea, because it just invites criticisms. Especially with young women, many people want to show them that they are wrong and they know better. It is really annoying, isn't it?!!
Just ignore them and go on with your life.

As far as minoring in business, you can, of course, do that, and if what you want is to work as an independent nutritional consultant, it is probably a great idea. If what you have in mind is working in a hospital or something, it won't help you much.

My suggestion is just go on and pursuit what your heart wanted to do. I understand that by some cases, your family had opposed your major interest but it's actually your future, not theirs. Mostly, you are the one who would make the most accurate decision not your family. If you are a grown up, you should manage your own business and not letting anyone doubt you. Maybe they just wanted the best for you but sometime they were just over-thinking your situation.
This actually happened to me, I wanted to study abroad and to attend a pharmacy school but my mom wasn't allow me to. She thought that I wouldn't capable to be alone so I ended up let go of my dream in regret. I don't hate her but I have always disappointed whenever I think about that.
Whether that career would bring you a lot of money or not, it is never a big deal. Remember, you will not success on anything if you don't like it. If you like a career path in nutrition field, go for it if you really in to it.

You are going to be doing whatever job you do for quite some time so make sure it is something that you can stand doing for a while.

Your minor(s) can be completely separate from your major. Nutrition and Business could definitely be done in tandem.
