The United States Senate in a resolution (S. Res 98) voted 95-0 on July 25, 1997 to forbid the U.S signing the proposed UN agreement known as the Kyoto Protocols because it did not address the issue of CO2 and other emissions being produced by developing nations. The sponsor of that resolution was Senator Byrd of West Virginia, a Democrat, and he had 67 co-sponsors.
That is the real "Inconvenient Truth".

It will cost industry and government a lot of money.
I believe that there is too much pollution however
I don't believe anything Al Gore says.
Where I live it has been colder recently.
I do believe overpopulation and deforestation
are major problems but kyoto will not affect these.
The best thing we can do for the planet is to have
fewer children.
People think that the government has to make changes
but are not willing to sacrifice their own lifestyles.

I agree with everything Ace said. Plus, we know that the nations who signed the treaty won't abide by it. The European nations that have signed Kyoto haven't reduced their emmissions. China won't. Russia doesn't have to. Most rational people know that it's main goal was to hurt the US economy, not help the environment. And as for the comment about the Republicans, when Kyoto was voted on in the US Senate, zero Democrats voted for it, it was something like 92-0. I may have the 92 wrong, but zero people voted for it.

Because Kyoto is ridiculous! Even if complied with its effects on global warming are minimum at best (0.3 degrees F over 100 years). The costs of compliance are outrageous. The costs in terms of lost jobs and wealth creation makes it not worth it. Keep in mind, man-made global warming is a theory in flux. There has been no increase in global warming for the past eight years. There is no need to make such drastic decisions until the science gets better and technology improves that will help us deal with the problem. The worlds governments need to put their resources more into research and development with respect to the issue.

Because the oil and coal companies in the US are allowed to dictate US energy policy to suit themselves.
The good news is that this is changing--but it has a long way to go before the speciial interests are pushed out of the way.

The American government cares more about its own corporations than anything else. If big companies don't like it, the government won't do it.

Same reason the US doesn't support the Geneva Convention- it gets in the way of America doing whatever it wants to do, period.
