I believe that the fight between Democrats and Republicans is RUINING our country. By worrying more about politics and not the tasks at hand, our country is going at a brick wall at a hundred miles an hour and pretty soon, we're gonna hit it.

If anything, what can we do? Thoughts?

I'm almost 50, it's been this way all my life. We haven't hit the wall yet.

We need a viable 3rd party.

I couldn't agree more. Honestly, the only way to end the problem is for the people in this country to take the government away from the elitist ruling class who run this country as though they are somehow entitled to make decisions without listening to the voice of the people who they are supposed to represent. I'm not talking about armed insurrection (yet), but throwing the bastards out at the polls.

Take the current Presidential debacle. I have never seen a poorer field of candidates for either party. Political agendas and the blatant reach for power is the goal, not what's best for the nation. If our voices were important, for example, the immigration issue would be easy. The borders would be closed, the people that employ illegals would be out of business, and there would be a steady stream of people heading south out of the country. Poll after poll show that the majority of Americans want that very thing. So what do the elected leaders do, they try to pass legislation to let them all stay, and balk at doing anything about our borders. In the meantime, the country is gaining speed as we head for the edge of the precipice.

I think it's probably been this way for a couple hundred years. I don't agree that it's necessarily a bad thing, especially when my chosen party isn't in power. I think third parties just spoil the vote. It would be far more useful if we had "instant runoff voting," where you could basically make your two best choices. Then people wouldn't have had to throw their votes away on Ralph Nader just to prove a point, and end up with someone really intolerable.

It seems many on the left put party before country and national security. Not only politicians like Harry Reid and Carl Levin, but bureaucrats in the state department and the CIA who do all they can to discredit the President and sabotage his policies.

I personally think that about 20 every day citizens from each side should be sequestered for about 3 months(like jury duty)
and hash out all this crap.
