Did you know that before 1965, the quarters were made out of silver. So if you find a quarter that is dated before 1965, keep it!!!

The quarters from 1965 to date are made of .750 copper and .250 nickel. There are exceptions but they are special coins that were available from the mint at the time and now coin dealers. There is a silver clad bicentennial quarter as well as state quarters. Special silver proof sets were also made in the 1990's, with silver clad quarters. The silver content is 40%. Pryer to 1965 the quarters were .900 silver .100 copper that made them 90% silver. Hope this answers your question.
