My husband likes Riley. I'm concerned that it has become more of a girl's name. Hubby also thinks that if we are going to carry down his middle name (Markus...it's German) we should also carry down his first name...Benjamin. He's never been fond of Benjamin. What are your thoughts and suggestions? We have our ultrasound tomorrow; I have a feeling it's a boy. This will be our first child.

I think it's a fine idea to use your husband's middle name, and not feel the need to pass on Benjamin as well (especially given that he doesn't like it himself!). Honestly, there's no reason to do that to a child, and it's nice that you're giving him a first name all his own! ;)

If the current crossover usage of Reilly concerns you, you might consider using this original, strictly-masculine form. ;)

Or perhaps something similar that happens to be more in line with the middle name Markus, since you expressed concern about that as well.

Reiner Markus (RIE-ner) - identical beginning sound, as it happens ;)
Roland Markus
Rolan Markus
Rupert Markus
Rodney Markus
Roderick Markus
Oliver Markus
Henry Markus
Leo Markus
Wieland Markus
Conrad Markus
Gabriel Markus - Reilly/Riley could feasibly work as a nickname for Gabriel, by the way
Hagan Markus
Kilian Markus
Severin Markus
Soren Markus
Torsten Markus
Xaver Markus

German names (or containing Germanic elements/roots), all with sound elements and/or styles similar to Reilly/Riley. ;)

Hope that helps!

I love all three names for a boy. Well I love love Benjamin and Riley. I really only like Markus for a middle name. I know equally as many boy Rileys as I do girls.

No need to carry both names. I see what you are saying about Riley becoming a girl's name...what about Markus as the first name?

I love both Riley Markus and Benjamin Markus. I think Riley is definitely fine for either a boy or a girl.
