Why does the screen automatically dim after 5 minutes of inactivity on my macbook pro? Sometimes I'm watching a movie in quick time (not in full screen by the way) and the screen will go dark (not turn off). I can still barely see the icons, but it gets really dark. Obviously just tapping the mouse will brighten the screen again; I've looked around in system preferences, but haven't been able to find a solution. I would appreciate any solutions to this.

Thanks Bob, but it doesn't help. I looked around in system preferences (as I stated in my question) but could find no solution.

this is to save energy,
the screen becomes dim(goes dark), a few seconds before the display sleeps
if you want to disable this feature, choose SYSTEM PREFERENCES and then ENERGY SAVER(the one with the light bulb icon)
Once you click that ,a window opens up showing 2 sliders under SLEEP
the second one is of importance to us.(PUT THE DISPLAY TO SLEEP WHEN COMPUTER IS INACTIVE FOR)
now slide the blue knob over to your extreme right where it says NEVER.
Thats it-your done

THANK YOU BOB GELD. I am having the exact same problem ( not to mention all the other problems that I'm having with MAC). It won't do a lot of things that I could do with Windows.
