Names we are considering for our baby boy are:
Ashmit (pronounced Ash-mit)
Rohan (pronounced Ro -hun)
Vishal (pronounced Vish-aal)
These are Indian origin names as are we.

Thanks

of them, Ashmit jumps out as the best for a little boy: it's very ethnic, but at the same time it can fall in with the other "Ash" names that are so popular - Ashton, Asher, Ashley ... so it isn't all that weird.

Rohan: I love it's meaning, and it looks gorgeous when it's written out in sanskrit, but I get the feeling that it will be assumed he's named after the "Rohan" of Lord of the Rings fame. On sound alone, though, this is my favorite.

Vishal is nice ... but I don't like it as much as the other two. It isn't as poetic sounding as Rohan, and it doesn't have Ashmit's ability to blend in. It would be a very good middle name, though.

Do you live in a predominantly Indian area? If so, then any of these names sound great. But, if you live in a predominantly American area, I would use Rohan, because as said by another Y!A person, Ashmit can be twisted into A**mit, and Vishal would be hard to pronounce for teachers and other figures in power, probably resulting in embarrassment for your son. Hope I helped!

I'm not personally familiar with Ashmit, but I honestly wouldn't use it in the states (given its literal word division into "ash mit," as in a mit one might use to catch ashes?). Many will likely assume it a created name, or even a joke, I'm afraid. :(

I do, however, quite like both Rohan and Vishal, in that order. Both handsome choices that would well reflect your heritage and not be too difficult or problematic even in the US. Especially Rohan, which is fairly simple and might even benefit from the rising popularity of similar Rowan. ;)

Hope that helps, and good luck!

Rohan sounds the best. Ashmit sounds like an appliance.

It's an okay name. Think about what nickname you would call just in case when he gets older he doesn't like the name. You might want to consider something that also sounds right with the last name. I like the name Rohan the best.

Vishal is a nice name, but Ashmit is the winner

Rohan I love, but the other two are iffy. Definately not Ashmit... it sounds like a name he would get picked on for.

I go with Rohan , Asmit is too close to being called As**t, so I wouldnt want my child to be teased. I dont like Vishal.
