I see TV shows, movies, commercials,etc... and they all represent us as vain and well...slightly irritable. My husband came home from work the other night, and said he loved what I did with my hair. ( I actually hadn't done anything) I loved that he noticed it looked different! When you see the onscreen portrayal of this, when the man says he likes her new hair, the woman gets upset, saying, "You didn't like it before?" She comes out and asks if these jeans make her look fat, and he pulls out a Snickers bar, because he "needs a minute." Am I the only one who wants my man to tell me something makes me look bad or good? Isn't it better to have him be honest, and not get *itchy, than to go out in public and have people stare at you like you got dressed in the dark?

On paper, women would love to testify that they'd prefer their men to tell them if they looked good or bad. But in practise, women seem to 'hate' when their man tells them because their men are supposed to be the ones who love them no matter what they look like, what they're wearing, what they've done to their hair etc.
It is seen as the man's 'job' to make the woman feel good (as opposed to feeling bad) and telling her she could look better in a different pair of jeans could be deemed potentially offensive= making her not feel good. This is why if you want a sincere opinion on an outfit/hair/the way you look, you should ask a good friend who you can trust. They don't have as much obligation to make you feel good/can be more honest with you?

My husband is gone now, but when he was a live, he would tell me all the time if I looked good or bad. Most of the time he would say I could wear a sack and be beautiful, so I'm with you. The truth is the best. You have a good man. It shows that he is looking at you, not through you.

I am not sure of the question, but yes I like to get compliments from my husband. I dont think my husband would notice if I looked like I got dressed in the dark, so that is not an issue.

If he's going to comment or compliment, I want honesty. I don't ask if something makes me look fat, because I already know and don't want some bs "you look fine" reply. If I ask, tell me the truth...if I don't ask, feel free to comment if you desire, but try to keep negative comments to a minimum if you cannot be gentle (there are tactful ways to let someone know something isn't as appealing as it could be). I really don't want to hear "that looks like krap", y'know? I wouldn't have put it on, if I thought it looked that bad.

My man rocks. He (usually) had better fashion sense and color coordination than I do. Don't get me wrong, he's not some weird Metro-whatever. He's a hardworking laborer, but he comments all the time on my hair or my body or my clothes... I love it. I want to wear things that he wants to see me in.
3 cheers for the men willing to speak up, and the women who can handle it without being rediculous!

I ask my husband all the time how I look. I want to look good for him if we are going out into public. So i am sure he tells me the truth. I always want him to be honest with me.

the tv shows are exaggerating a stereo-type and it annoying to me too. i would hate it if i thought my husband would let me go out in public in something that was less than flattering and i love it when he compliments me and i know it is sincere.
any woman who would only want to hear compliments and not the truth isn't very secure in herself.

YES. I am right there with you! I would rather that my husband tell me that I look like my hair had a fight with the lawnmower than waltz out with it looking like heck because he told me a little white lie.
TV women are nuts and they only portray a small portion of us. ... certainly not me!

lol. they do that in twix commercials. not snickers. i'd rather be told the truth. situations like this suck for guys. because it can be a loaded question. you don't wanna lie, but you can't tell her the truth if her **** DOES look fat.
