What part of human nature does this appeal to that makes us laugh and cry at the same time?
Do men and women both get laugh and cry from watching this?
I don't get it... Why does it make me cry and laugh?

Man! Your answers are all making me laugh and cry, too, LOL!!
I think the emotional empaths get it... perhaps that is the key. It must be because I am an empath, and I can feel the joy and elation of those two, and it brings me to (happy) tears. I get that quite a lot when I reading or listening to religious or spiritual things, too.
Yous are all so FUNNY!!! :-) It has helped me to understand the differences between people's natures. Thanks to everyone for your honest answers. ♥

Maybe Jayasri is right about the dress.
Perhaps the laugh-cry thing also has something to do with the sexual nature of the dance.
Before I got married, I poured all of my energy into God. I hardly slept at all, feeling always God's love, & praying a lot... I didn't have any dreams or emotional responses of my own.
I think, in marriage, I began to be both grounded to the earth (through the sexual experience) & connected to God (through the spiritual experience).
I notice an improvement in my mood, my spirituality & health after bonding with my husband (my eternal companion). I think it clears the energy blocks (Kundalini?)
Perhaps that is why I got tingles on my scalp & up arms when I watched that video. I was empathising with the feeling of the dancers, which cleared energy blocks in me. Tears & laughter occurred as my resistance dissolved.
I know when I was focused completely on God, & had nothing grounding me to the physical, I would have felt similar to Jayasri, Beans & Shanky

I think finding a balance between the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual is important for our well-being... as we are creatures of both spirit and flesh, inheriting these same characteristics from our Divine Parents. All of the laws of God that I know are an attempt to bring about this balance between all aspects of our complex divine selves.

I understand, because it did that to me, too. I think it's because some of us have very deep feelings - things affect us more than it does others. It's like some people don't understand why I cry when I see something beautiful like wild horses running free, or a breathtaking sunset, or beautiful music or artwork. It's just so beautiful and joyful it brings me to tears. The wedding video is a joyful time for the couple, and they wanted to take it to a higher level by dancing out a favorite scene in a movie (which was great). I think some men are that way, too, but they don't want to admit it, as they are afraid it would be seen as a weakness (which it is not).

I know that I was very emotional when I got married and when I first signed my new surname. I was crying and happy at the same time. Sometimes we cry because we are overwhelmed with happiness, at least this happens to us women. Men may be more able to keep their emotions in check. At the fist sight of a couples newborn baby, especially if the father is present when his wife gives birth which happens more often now in our modern times, then when they see the child is healthy and he mother is fine, then both parents have that special moment together that will link them forever, when they share a special tenderness and feel like laughing and crying at the sight of their beautiful newborn baby. x

I don't know I watched it and saw nothing there. I guess I saw it as a lack of real culture and found it sad, but not laughable at all.Her dress was short and kind of lusty compared to the Vedic style of dress. Sorry I am not sure what you are seeing mum. I did see the movie With Patric Swazi. I don't know, I guess I am not into all this worldly ways any more. You know the "be in this world, but not of it", kind of thing. It does make me feel good that I have no real emotion to such stuff any longer. Just a kind of empathy.

I don't get it either. I thought they did a good job, more or less, but I think you are just happy and cry at the same time at weddings, and I don't. I enjoyed seeing it though, because I like good dancing. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Wow, that was soo cool, Wouldn't it be great if we all had friends like that.
They were having such a great time.
I think the reason that we laugh and cry is because of course we saw the movie and that last song made me emotional while I was watching it.

.... erm..... i only watched about 45 seconds of it... not even. it didn't capture my interests right away and besides, i absolutely hate that song, and i hate the movie it's from even more. so retarded and sappy.
i neither laughed nor cried. well, did something funny happen? like they tripped or something? because i didn't watch the whole thing.
anyways, well maybe you're a romantic and that's why you liked that video clip. Hence, why you laughed and cried. IDK.
As for me, personally, as i said, i cannot stand that gay song and i don't know why anybody in his/her right mind would choose that as a wedding song. *ick!* lol.
but it's fine i guess that you find it... well, cute. maybe that's just your personality.
♥
*edit* Prince P: hey ya! don't be rude to her. She's not a weirdo. That's just mean and unnecessary!! Eeew, how rude are you?

Nothing has happened to me. Not sure what you are referring to?
The mix reaction which you referring to happens in spiritualism too, when ones mind is too pure and light (Satvik).
For example in Bhakti (or Love), you might cry but you are not sad either. Nomally it happens when mind gets liquidated, because of extreme illogical or contradicting feelings.

I usually can get pretty sappy at that wedding stuff, but I didn't laugh or cry. I just mainly felt bored.
