On December 31rst, most people celebrate the last day of the year, often with large quantities of alcohol, but not always. We call it "New Years Eve" over here.

By the way, my favorite New Years Eve wasn't in America, it was in Florence Italy. There where so many people there from so many different places each celebrating the same thing. It was so fun.
