I guess what I'm getting at is that I'm pretty well grounded in my own value system and thought processes....but I often find myself having to defend them outwardly to others.

Here's a good example...I have no buttons to choose a best answer...they're just not there! See what I mean?

As the saying goes, it take two to tango.

In this dualistic reality, you will have an internal and external existence, and battles are for you to observe. Mostly is just an emotional judgment. You have both at all times: good and bad.

Internal 100%

Is anything external.

This is more easily understandable if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.

This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.

At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.

We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.

These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.

From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.

I hope that helps to answered your question.

All our battles are internal despite appearances to the contrary. Reality simply mirrors the conflicted contents of consciousness until we transcend the conditioning that every child is susceptible to. When we project our defects on to others and our attributes onto 'higher ups' or deities we are naturally embroiled in external calamities.

Change your mind, change your life is an absolute truism.

All battles are internal - even if they're physical, which I think you mean by saying "external". Even if you're talking about conflicts with other people, all have an internal impact because they make you question a series of things about - who else? - yourself. As long as battles involve you, they're internal.

Oh! It is not just 'mostly'! It is always, internal.
It is the 'weaponisation' and manifestation on the outside.
Once it is internally resolved, we would be now free, and by choice, consciously be also able to help others to resolve it for them, either through a battle or a graceful truce!

Mostly internal but sometimes provoked by external circumstances beyond my control...and the battle is to not let them "get to me" . Sometimes they are internal provoked by past experiences and fears and the battle is then to get around them to reach my potential.
Probably mostly externally provoked at this point in my life.

internal.
all matters in which are caused by external relations end up acting towards the internal mind and heart. Its a matter of reaction towards the events and occurences around you leaving you in a specaific state of mind which again acts upon you internally.

internal, isn't that how it;'s meant to be?
alot of outer manifestations stem from negative lomng held beliefs which is false truths we have been given, & had no choice but to believe.
for example someone having problems with finances possibly has an underlying belief that they don't deserve to have money, or belive in poverty consciousness (sometimes by misinterpreatation such as money is the root of all evil etc rather abundance consciousness. they can change that belief of course, by using self affirmations & power of their mind...
everything starts with the mind & our thoughts....

everything is internal - with external presentations.

it depends on internal verses external as a whole or part of a whole.
