I mean, I'm not trying to be rude, I can't sing for my life, but I KNOW IT, and then other people... Well, just look at the American Idol losers... =[

Hey Laura, get a life, I never even said it gets me mad, I just asked WHY. And, no, I don't wanna be a singer deep down inside. This is yahoo answers, people are allowed to ask questions, don't try to shut people down when you don't even know them. I'm guessing you're one of those "great" singers out there..

On the simplest of levels, you have to first believe in yourself. If not, then who else should?

Consider also that many of these wannabe singers may not be as tone deaf as their family and friends that encourage them.

I think ultimately it's about the money, which is sadly long gone in the music business unless you can hold on for a good long ride.

I also think more people generally are enamored with the notion of celebrity these days than ever before. Wish I could find the study again, but I read that a poll conducted a few years ago noted that more junior high schoolers aspired to being sports or entertainment celebrities than cops, firemen, or other jobs that had scored highly in decades past.

They don't necessarily think that they can sing, some ppl like Paris Hilton probably know that they can't sing to save their lives, but they also know that there's a market for non-talented people.
As for the American Idol auditions... I wonder if they're paid to make fools of themselves, I think some of it is staged.

Because so many bad singers get famous, just turn on the t.v. I could name so many bad singers right now, but I won't because some hearing impaired fan will give me a thumbs down l.o.l.

I think family and friends play a big role. I think a lot of family members are already aware that their loved one cant sing but don't want to hurt their feelings. Or, they are just as deluded as the singer.

Well to me it sounds pretty harsh. Its not nice to try to stomp on others just because of something you cant do or are afraid to attempt. If that gets you soo mad maybe you should worry about yourself and stop putting ppl down. Its not nice. Follow your dream.maybe you want to be a singer deep down inside.

Yeh and some freak out when told they just don't have it, puzzles me as well. Maybe they are tone deaf, but it is so obvious they are so so so bad.
