Mercury Morris from the '72 Dolphins has denied the significance of New England's 38-35 victory, unlike the majority of the Dolphins players and coaches from that team.
Morris said. "It doesn't matter to me whether or not they win them all because it doesn't affect anything we've done."
"When all the dust clears, the best they can do is to stand beside us, and in the end, that's not a bad thing," Morris said.
I'm sorry Mr. Morris, but if the Patriots do go on and win the Super Bowl this season, they WILL become the best team in NFL history by going 19-0; which is better than your 17-0 record. To me, they won't be beside you in the NFL record books, they will be on top.
That is my thought, what do you think?

Who cares? Morris is just ticked off because people no longer care about the 72 Dolphins. I don't think it is really about the record, this is about Morris's ego.

Unfortunately, the NFL does not recognize the 1948 Cleveland Browns perfect season. If they had, it would not have been as big of a deal when the Dolphins did it, since they were not really the first team. The 1948 Cleveland Browns, in fact the 1946-1955 Cleveland Browns were perhaps the Greatest Dynasty in pro football history. During those ten seasons, the Browns won 7 Championships. In the modern era, I would agree with your assessment that the 85 Bears and the 84 and 89 49ers were better than the 1972 Dolphins. However, I am not sure they were better than the 1948 Browns. The Browns had an unbelievable offense, featuring HOF quarterback Otto Graham. Fellow HOF Dante Laveli and Mac Speedie (who was the best receiver in football for 7 seasons and should be in the HOF) made big plays on the outside. Dub Jones was perhaps the greatest receiving running back of his time. Marion Motley was the best blocking fullback of all-time and averaged 5.7 yards per carry for his career. Wow! Then you add in a defense that was tops in the league most seasons. They were unbelievable. If only more people knew. Well, at least now you know.

The NFL played a 14 game season in 1972. Why is that the Dolphins fault?? The Cleveland Browns went 14-0 in 1948.
Are you gonna dis them because there was no Super Bowl back then. Grow UP!!!

Mercury Morris is a "reformed" cocaine peddler and addict, who would sound a lot smarter if he kept his mouth shut. When he played he was an average running back at best.

He's so addled by drug and alcohol use that, if the Pats go 19-0, he'll lose the only thing left that he has to hold on to.

i think you are a moron. he's exactly right.. the best the patriots can do is stand beside them in the undefeated circle. there is no "doing better than" in this season. why are pats fans so mentally deficient that they can't understand?... i suppose we should give you 14 year olds a break
