This is where i have 2 problems. PLEASE DONT GIVE ME THE ANSWERS I DONT WANT THEM SOLVED JUST THE PARTS I'M STUCK ON:
Problem:
x+2y=10
2x-y=5
(This is 1 problem)
So I dd this:
2x-y=5
and made it y=3x
So then I did the next problem filling in y
x+2(3x)=10
x+6x=10
NOW WHAT?
Isnt it supposed to equal?
Where did I go wrong?
please just help me where I am stuck and don't solve it.
THANKS

Method 1
2x = 5 + y
2x - 5 = y

x + 2(2x - 5) = 10
5x - 10 = 10
5x = 20
x = 4

8 - 5 = y
y = 3

x = 4 , y = 3

Method 2
x + 2y = 10
4x - 2y = 10------ADD

5x = 20
x = 4

4 + 2y = 10
2y = 6
y = 3

x = 4 , y = 3

Your idea of substitution is correct. You must consider one equation, express one variable in the terms of the other and substitute the value of the variable in the other equation. That you understand. You've gone wrong in the steps.

x + 2y = 10 ..... (1)
2x - y = 5 ..... (2)

From (2),
y = 2x - 5 ..... (3)

Substitute this value of y in (1),

x + 2(2x - 5) = 10
x + 4x - 10 = 10
5x = 20
x = 4

Substitute x = 4 in (3),
y = 8 - 5
y = 3

x = 4, y = 3 is the solution.

properly considering they supply u y=2x+a million all you're able to do is replace the y cost in determination to x interior the 1st equation so this could supply u x+(2x+a million)=7 then u upload like words and thsi will supply u 3x+a million=7 then you pass the single to the different section which will supply u 3x=6 then u sparkling up for x and x=2 the considering u have x=2 you ought to use the two equation and substituve 2 interior the cost of x and you have y=5 x=2

When you took 2x-y=5 should have subtracted 5 from each side and added y to each side to come up with y=2x-5. (You combined the 5 and the 2x which you can't do.)

x+2y=10
2x-y=5

x=10-2y
2(10-y)=5
20-2y=5
-2y=-15
y=15/2

x+2(15/2)=10
x+10=10
x=0

you needed to -x so u can get

2y=10
2x-y=5
then just substitute it in
