God definitely give us challenges....I can't imagine a benevolent God doing that just to see how much rope He has to feed us before we hang ourselves. Instead, I believe that He put those obstacles in our way in order for us to learn about ourselves, others, and the world around us, with His hope being that we become better persons because of it.
I totally agree that it is our job to make life better....not only our lives, but the lives of everybody we encounter. Granted, most of those people will never be anything more than "extras" in the cast of characters in our lives, but still we should take it upon ourselves to try to make things better for them, even if it's only in the smallest of ways.

Well I dont think God gives us challenges in order for us to screw up in life, but it is our job to make life better. I think God gives us challenges to test our strength and our compassion and to become better people from our experiences. God never gives us more than we can handle, even if it feels at the time we cant handle the situation, God guides us thru it if we show him we have faith in him. Thats just my opinion and I am by no means a bible thumper, just someone that believes in trusting Gods plan for us.
