It seems clear, especially on this forum, that there is often a great deal of resentment amongst some men towards women and vice versa.

What do you think causes it.

And is it justifiable to resent and entire gender, if so, why?

What causes Men and Women to Resent each other?

In another area of philosophy, I have read that people often come closest to each other when they are questioning and at odds. Dislike or hatred come from emotions and that is caring. I think that is better than ambivalence. I think we want to get along, that we try and fail and out of our frustration we assign all the blame to our counterpart. Instead of this animosity limiting itself to those people we have crossed paths with, we, instead, ascribe our dislike to the group, with some exceptions. On this forum, because of the anonymous nature of our personas people believe they can fight with no holds barred. The cyber matches of wit may satisfy a desire to confront our opponents, but unless we see some compromise or change in attitude, they are exercises in futility.
I think politeness and respectful responses would ease tension and warm some hearts while changing minds.
No one person responds well to being cast as a villain, especially when that person didn't really do anything wrong.
Perhaps we could give more leeway, try to see a different point of view and refrain from juvenile name calling. People find it natural to live down or to live up to expectations. We can do better.
C. :)!!

Ha ha I am genuinely worried for anyone on this site who takes all the debates and mudslinging seriously. Perhaps we should all stop with the drama and constant bashing if some people are starting to carry real resentment towards the opposite sex.

I don't know, I LOVE men. I don't resent them unless they treat me rudely for no reason. However if I am aggravating them and they jump on my case for it, that's my fault. I am always aware of what I do and say so I know when I am pushing buttons. Same goes for the gals. I think we should all give each other a fair shake before acting like a bunch of bickering bitties.

Innate and cultural differences in communcation methods and standards. Also power struggles, and the lack of remotely clear, agreed-upon recognition of how these power struggles play out. It is absolutely not reasonable to resent a whole gender. ~10% of men and women are more like the opposite gender than their own, ~10% are on the fence, ~20% are better because of their gender-stereotyped traits....

On this forum, I'd say if there is resentment it probably stems from quite a few different things: insults, degradation, feeling misunderstood, lack of empathy, argumentativeness, anger, prejudice, all kinds of mis-perceptions and mis-interpretations (real or imagined). I'd say that most of us are wise enough not to assign blame or anger toward everyone when the reaction is provoked by only one person. And most of us can differentiate between what is worth getting upset about and what is a waste of time and energy. But we all have our vulnerable moments, whether we'd like to admit it or not- times when we lose our temper or resort to lowering ourselves to the level of the one who upset us to begin with. We're only human.

Check out the forum at any given time. There will be an overtly offensive male question (on tonight's agenda..."women are furniture"). Any post submitted by Raj. The sh1t posted by Chris. I'm sorry, but you just DON'T see the women on here posting this kind of crap.

Be honest...when's the last time you saw a post by a woman on here that comes near the level of offensiveness that the male trolls post? Go look...try and find a woman-posted question that comes near the level of garbage you can see on here every day, day after day, by the simpleminded male trolls.

I would say that the sarcastic defensiveness is almost always in response to some overtly assaholic question posted by some ignoramus with a huge chip on his shoulder.

The answer is feminism.
I resent the fact that, for my entire life, I have been told that because I am a man,I am simple, evil and basically inferior .... how can that not offend ?
This has nothing to do with what what women were told for the last thousand years .... I was not there, so it has nothing to do with me.

I doubt anyone truly resents an entire gender.

Cause of the say-so? Big talk is my guess.

- Claims of superiority and negative stereotyping on both sides.

- Feeling the need to defend oneself against being typecast as stupid, illogical, etc...

- Poor or unfair treatment based on sex (sexism). Favoritism of one sex over the other.

- Bad experiences - repeated abuse from opposite sex.
