Choosing a name is difficult. You don't want something too trendy or weird (just think, teachers, relatives and other kids will have to pronounce it!). You don't want a name with a strange meaning that you'll have to explain every time your son is introduced to someone. However, you want the name to be unique. You don't want a name with too many other kids in his class with the same name. Think about the baby's last name. Don't pick something that begins with the same letter as the last name, that rhymes or ends in the same letter. Also, try to pick a name that lasts through out life. For example, my cousin named her daughter Kelsi. Kelsi is a cute name for a baby, a child and a teen, but, perhaps I'm old fashioned, I find it hard to picture a 60 year old Kelsi... Try sticking to old fashioned classics that have nicknames that could be cute for young children. Here are some of my favorites:

Jonathan Patrick Michael Christopher
Edward James Henry Robert
Thomas Nicholas Andrew William
Timothy Alexander Daniel Jacob

My favorite combinations of the above are
Christopher Patrick Thomas Andrew
William Edward Alexander Timothy
James Daniel Jacob Michael
Jonathan Nicholas Robert Henry

The choice is ultimately yours and your mate's. Remember, your child's name is something that he will have to live with for the rest of his life.

Kenneth Matthew
Drake Michael
Zachary Thomas
Logan Matthew
Owen Matthew
Conner James
Kenan Matthew
Keaton Matthew

I see your name is Matthew, so that is why I put Matthew with some of the names...
You & your spouse need to make a list then get together & compare the list & narrow it down for the perfect name.
Your gonna be a family now & this is something you need to do together...
Congrats... God Bless you & your little miracle...

This is not a decision made by Yahoo Members, it should be made by the current parents. You should aim for a name that origins from the family tree. Or maybe name him after someyone you admire, or love.
Do not choose a name you would regret, or that your child will get ridiculed or teased for , such as a name like Patty, or Dick. Children are not kind these days, so be thoughtful in choosing a name.

This is how we named my son...browsing through many name websites till we found something original that wasn't too popular, but didn't sound strange either. If you want to avoid popular names, these sites are good because most will always show you the years most popular names. And if you like one of the popular ones, then even better...
Good luck ^_^

Firsty congrats on your little boy!!

Well my mum always told me to name a child so that when they grow up say they married into the royal family one day (maybe unlikey but hey who knows what could happen) they should have a name that would fit it!! (so you can't really have any names that are made up..so to speak..if you see what i'm saying lol)

Id go with a name like Harrison or Daniel... i think their nice names.

Hi there! My yahoo name is Sparky (but please DON"T name your child that !!!! But my real name is Bryan (notice it's not spelt the common way with an "i") There are far too many Brian's . But using the Y gives the name distinction from the common way. Whatever you decide please don't name you son "Sue" Listen to the Johnny Cash song about the boy named "Sue" !!! Take care, I'm sure you will make the right decision!!!!!!! Luv Sparky

I like Matt, short for Matthew, or Alex, short for Alexander, or Peter, or Nick, short for Nicholas. Look online for a website that has tons of baby names, just google in the phrase "baby names". Congrats.
