Since you didn't mention a tank size, I'd recommend any of the livebearers (guppies, platies, swordtails, or mollies), danios, tetras, corydoras, bettas, or dwarf gourami.

Be aware that the tetras, danios, and corys are schooling fish, so will do best in groups of 5+. You can keep bettas with other fish, but some individuals are tempermental and don't want any tankmates. You should only keep a single male betta, or 3+ females. A male with females isn't a good idea either in the long term - they will fight unless conditioned for spawning, and after eggs are laid, they'd still have to be separated.

The livebearers will spawn if you have both males and females in your tank, and can quickly overpopulate a tank. It's okay to get single fish of these, or to get only males. If you buy a female from a tank with both genders in it, the female will likely already be pregnant, and can continue to give birth on average every 28 days for 6 months from a single mating.

Well what size tank do you have? What fish are you sure you want? I need to know a little more about your tank before I can give you a good answer. There are so many possible combinations I couldn't begin to list them here. It's true that male bettas will fight other male bettas, but they are generally peaceful to other fish if they don't have too much finnage or aren't too agressive. I can give you a link to a chart that will give you a general idea of fish that fit best together, though, and if you add a couple more comments I can help you further.

You need to be much more specific than that. What is the tank size? What kind fish are you planning to keep? Cichlids? Barbs? Tetras?
