I would first use a software to delete the entire hard drive. The files we delete in the recycle bin, the files are still recoverable with a program so use a HDD cleaning program if you had any confidential stuff in your hard drive!

after that... just use the recovery disk or operating system disk to return it back to factory state.

the first step i mentioned is really optional but highly recommended if you had any confidential/ private files in the past on this computer.

Use a free program like "killdisk" which you can download free from NTFS.com .
Run the program at least three times and your data will be gone for good. What the program does is writes the binary to all zeros, so the drive cannot contain data. The binary code in which computers run is made up of ones and zeros in different configurations, and when it is all zeros it is not able to contain data.
Then a simple format will refresh the drive and it can be used once more.

Do you have a restore CD? If you do, boot it, and choose the option that reformats your drive and puts the computer back together the way it was when you bought it.
And give the CD away with the computer. The person who gets your compouter will appreciate it.

You can buy software to scrub hard drives.
Try Staples/Business Depot, Best Buy, etc.
They may also do it for you, for a fee.
