We are moving house and need lots of boxes. We have looked around and been shocked at the price of them (around £2 each) we will need about 100. We dont mind if they have been used aslong as they are usable and reasonably priced.
Any ideas???

Liquor stores are the BEST place for getting FREE boxes for moving. The boxes they have are almost always very sturdy because they have to be in order to store the heavy liquor bottles in and they also have dividers in them for the bottles, which come in handy for your household items. If you'll just call or stop by your local liquor store, they can tell you when they put their boxes outside to be picked up.

Make sure that you're there early on the day(s) they designate, though, as the boxes tend to go rather quickly!

Good luck with your move!

A couple of suggestions: I would recommend going to a local supply store like Staples or Office Max, or similar types of warehouses, also try funiture stores for larger boxes and requesting their assistance in giving you their opened, used boxes. They are sometimes very helpful for needy causes.

Also, if you work in an office environment, or have friends who work in them. Then you can request and use the boxes they use for copier paper. These boxes are good for packing dishes, books, and all your little small objects. The majority of the places listed are free. Of course, it's always good to offer to pay for them, this shows your appreciation, and usually, the person will kindly say, there's no charge for them, because they were going to trash them anyway.

I hope this info helps you.

Hello ! Where have you been? You can get free, yes free boxes from all sorts of business places just by asking if they have any and if they will save them for you on their delivery day. Just make sure that you show up to pick them up. You don't want a lot of huge boxes as once you pack your things in them they get heavy and hard to handle. Use the small boxes for books etc. Save your old news papers to wrap dishes nd breakables in.

When my family and I moved w needed boxes also, so we got then at Giant eagle for free. Just go up to the service desk and ask, and they will give you some. Hope I could help.

*if you do not have a giant eagle, then try a local grocery store

I always go to Tesco and ask for old packaging. You'll be suprised by the amount of boxes they have spare! The only thing that'll be a real boon would be to get loads of parcel tape to put the boxes together again.

Try "packaging 2 you" - via Google. They do very good moving kits with everything included - boxes, tape and dispensing gun, bubble wrap and wrapping paper. A 100 sounds a lot unless you live in a mansion.

Check your local grocery store first thing in the morning. Stores usually have a nighttime stocking crew, so the boxes will be in the aisles and the stock people will be happy to get rid of them.

Ask at McDonalds and other fast food restaurants. They need nice sturdy boxes to transport their frozen food. Ask them if you can pick them up on a regular basis without them being broken down for recycling. Or check supermarkets for the same reason.

Hey, go into your local supermarket and ask if you could get an of the leftover boxes - they could provide you with loads for free!! Of all shapes and sizes. They will be flat packed though, but it won't be any bother to put them back up.
