Hi. I am SO afraid of spiders. Like even the really REALLY tiny harmless ones. Im staying at my sisters house for a few days in her room on an air matress. (in the basement) Her friend in the room across the hall found a black widow spider in her closet a few days ago! I am so scared! Can somebody tell me how to make sure none come in here? And if there already is one, how can i kill them without harming the new kitten? + How poisonus are they, and if I do get bitten, what should I do? (im 14) Will they often come out of hiding? 'Im really paranoid. In my house i have to check every bit of my ceiling before I go to sleep. Please help me!

You have good reason to be afraid of them. First take a broom or vacuum cleaner and clean out all the corners of dark places like; the closets or behind or under the furniture. They will be closer to the ground and less likely to be on the ceiling.

Do not use any pesticides around your kitten it can harm her/him. Just make sure any dark area is well cleaned.

Black widow spiders will have a red hour glass figure on their bellies, the rest of the spider will have long legs and a body like shinny black patten leather shoes.

they are just another one of gods creations...and usually they are in areas not disturbed so if you dont bother them they wont bother you..they have real stiff webs so if your around one you will encounter its web before you will encounter the spider ...and they will retreat so stop being so scared...watch charlottes web...widows are just little spiders with a bad wrap and name...i have been bitten several times because my line of work brings them in my path...and i find they do their best to get out of my way its only when i shove my hand right in their face they are forced to strike
and at first i got a sore and little sick to stomach but now they only turn red and then itch later...so dont be so scared and watch for the web

OK i read alot of wikipedia and according to them the venom is very serious and is even worse if your allergic to spider bites... and also don't kill the spider, plus what did the spider look like exactly? did have a red hourglass on it?also according to them it says that their chelicerae isnt very powerful
and females inject a dangorus amount of venom while males don't

they dont nest in busy areas. sweep up and they will go the other way.i don't believe anyone has died from a black widow bite, unless they were allergic in years.
