Tons of people ask this kind of question. You can go to many of these major electronic chain stores like Best Buy, or Circuit City. The only draw back is that you can not customize them. they are already pre-built, and most of the software is already pre-installed. Another place is Costco. If you are a member you get a 5% discount, and you get to customize them. You can save a load of money, so its an excellent steal.

Dell. The one I have was $500 with $100 rebate. It's called an Inspiron 1501... It's a 2007 model and was BRAND NEW straight from the company (I got mine for my bday/Christmas 12/07).. It has the wireless card, SD Slot, CD&DVD Burner, Windows Vista, AMD Sephron processor, a pretty large screen. The only thing that I do not like about it is... The color. It only comes in Silver.. but hey small sacrifice. Good Luck.

You can buy a cheap laptop, but that is exactly what you will have, a CHEAP laptop. It may not have the power to do what you want it to do.

I've seen laptops for around 500 to 600 bucks

You are not likely to find anything cheaper in stores for under $400. Most are in the $500+ range.

I would start saving up, because cheap laptops are rarely worth it. Especially if you want it new, you're going to have a trouble.

Save up and get one WORTH having. It took me 3 laptops to figure that one out.

Costco always has great deals on laptops..but if you are just looking for something functional..That will suit your needs (not playing the hotest video games)..go into yahoo groups Freecycle in your area and ask for one..you will be surprised.

Nothing's cheap now a days, a couple of options you might try though is go to craigslist.org or kijiji.com and put an ad on there for a cheap one.

You may want to try looking around at different stores, as well as different papers that may have them advertised.

Some searching on the Internet wouldn't hurt as well.

Good luck and I hope I helped!

There are computer resale stores, call a regular store that carries computers and ask if they know of any in your city. You can check ebay as well.
