Because it has an emotional content. As you know, the whole thing ticks me off because I think its proponents are bullies. I hate to see kids being frightened by air-headed adults and ESPECIALLY the television channels which clamor to air their nonsense. That's what gives me the extra motivation.
BTW, I think people should feel free to re-post a question if it is a sincere, legitimate one, and they just didn't get any satisfactory responses. No doubt, you've had that happen to you. So have I.

Well i sure dont know that answer mercury, I have seen that too, I am guilty of answering them to help mostly kids who have heard something about it and help them understand that the world will not end most likely until the sun goes red, I too have noticed some questions dont get only a couple answers, I am thinking that several answer the questions that they themselves have asked before and 2012 being one of those so maybe thats the reason, On the other hand some of the questions about real science and astronomy as well as space are more involved and many just dont know the answer to them.. Oh and I am one who dont know alot but i do know alot,,lol, So if a tough one comes up I try to research it, before answering,
Thats what I have figured,

I think it's because there is so much interest in 2012, and a lots of room for questions, after all not much of the story is known other than a few explanations about solar cycles.
Any here I am contributing ANOTHER answer to the 2012 databank.

Hi Mercury!
It's because so many of the young people out there are lacking the QUALITY educations that used to happen here in the US, and elsewhere around the world...
The younger people of today have such a high- speed, fast- paced life, they often times don't grasp the actual facts; they just run with the first (and usually, the SCARIEST) notions that they're exposed to...
Unforunate, but absolutely true.
The young ones of today are growing up in a world where sensationalism comes first, and does, (unfortunately) run rampant.
I, too, wish it were different.
We can only hope...

I"m glad they get a lot of answers... I'm hoping it shows the askers that there's a whole LOT of intelligent folks who know better and are trying to set their little minds at ease..... how awful to be thirteen or so and thinking that there's only four years left for you to live.... ACCORDING TO SOME DUNDERPUSS...... as long as there's more "NO, it ain't gonna happen"s than "Maybe it will happen''s, they should feel better..... or at least go look for more info....I hope............

Why does it get so many questions? The biggest concern I have about 2012 is solar max.
