what should I put on my baby registry?

Certainly put any large items you need on your registry (car seat, stroller/baby bathtub) if they're expensive several people can go in on them.

Ask other mothers you know for items they've found particularly useful.

Other than layette you don't really need to put baby clothes on there, as people can't really resist buying baby clothes! Make sure you put plenty of receiving blankets, onesies, blankets etc on there as you'll go through tons of those things! Also swaddlers and bag sleepers are great. If you already know what brand of bottles you're going to use (especially if you're breastfeeding and they fit the pump you're going to get) put those on there.

Just cover the basics and you'll find most people think of things you never would have. One woman who came to my shower bought me almost a years worth of baby wash/baby shampoo/washclothes/towels etc. and put it all into a baby bathtub. It was such a great gift! You don't realize how expensive those things are until you really look at them at the store.

I got my entire layette and enough clothes for the first 6 months out of my shower, plus all of my bottles, my breast pump, carseat, tons of baby socks, blankets, my cloth diapers and inumerable other things! If you have other mothers coming to your shower they will totally hook you up. They know so well what you need and will see that you get it.

Have fun!

And I agree with the poster above me. Target's return policy is crap. I ran into problems with that after my shower. Wal-mart, JC Penny and Kohl's all have really good regestries.

One bit of advice I have is to not feel afraid to put both little things and big things on your registry. This will be helpful to people looking for cheaper gifts and more expensive. If you don't get it, no big deal, you just have to buy it.

Also, I was warned by others that Targets registry return policy has changed. Check it out with someone before you register there as it may not be something you want to do.

Good luck!

Ask a friend who already has a baby. if I would've had someone, I would have registered a lot differently!
My advice to you-Check the return policy at the store. There is a chain store with a baby registry and their return policy is crap! (experience)

the store will give you a guide, typically its way too much stuff you will never need (or get).
