my brother has 2 baby map turtles (water turtles) and the light is turned off at night because it simulates "night time" in the wild. Turltles are the same as people...when it gets dark, they know its the end of the day and that its time to sleep. Dont worry about the water getting cold from the light being off and not producing anymore heat, it will only drop 2-4 degrees at most whcih they can still survive and when you turn the light on in the morning the temperature will be restored to the recommended 80-82 degrees.

Using a timer is the best way to regulate a good schedule. This way if you're not there to turn on or off the lights they still get done. In the winter I keep my lights on a 10/14 schedule. In the summer they're on a 12/12. This works for all 7 reptile setups.

Lights should be on for about 12-14 hours a day.

However, the lights should not be used for heating- they will not do a good enough job of that, so make sure you have a good water heater running 75-80F.

He does not could desire to stay in the water for too long yet merely adequate to drink and to do away with. touch a vet on your section who treats reptiles generally, in easy terms some do, and ask them. Get on the web content for turtle id and notice in case you will detect a experience. he's probably hungry, try some vegetables and culmination.
